Environmental law isn’t just for the corporate companies as many of you may think, it affects us all.
We cover areas as diverse as Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment regulations (WEEE), Carbon Management for the CRC, section 85 of the Climate Change Act 2008, Zero Waste Scotland Plan.
For Example, we at Go Green offer what we believe to be the starting point for any organisation looking to reduce their Carbon Emissions, we offer a measure, monitor, manage service. To show a reduction in an organisations CO2 footprint you first have to measure it, there for setting a base line and reporting on this baseline, the Climate Change Act 2008 will require all business to report on carbon emissions and show a reduction year on year, to show this we have to measure, we then monitor, via spreadsheets (our CAALM software is in development) we encourage organisations to look at usage on a month by month basis, thus highlighting any unexpected upturn in usage.
This allows the company to look in to what has caused this upturn. We then manage the carbon, we help the company to put in place action plans for areas which use high levels of energy, where and how can these areas be used more efficiently, setting targets for reduction etc. IT for example is estimated to account for 40% of a business electricity bill, yet it is the one area which is never truly looked at and is possibly the one area where the greatest reduction in emissions can be achieved.
